If you look up at the sky on a clear day, it’s likely that you’ll see a few jets. If you can’t see the jets, you’ll probably see the trail of exhaust they leave in their wake.
Some have noticed that certain planes leave these trails, while others do not. What could be the reason behind this? Cars don’t have an option whether or not they spew exhaust.
Some conspiracy theorists posit that this is because the “exhaust” isn’t exhaust at all.
What Is A Chemtrail?
Conspiracy theorists think that these planes are spewing a chemtrail that contains a chemical that is meant to control our minds, oversee our weather, sterilize us, and shorten our life expectancy. They also claim that the trails cause respiratory illnesses and other serious health issues.
This theory began in 1996 after the U.S. Air Force published a report about weather modification. Soon after, they were accused of “spraying the U.S. population with mysterious substances” from aircrafts. Thus, the chemtrail theory was born.
This rumor spread like wildfire on the internet, where it’s still alive today. Directly after it broke, federal officials were bombarded with angry phone calls from the public demanding that the government interference come to an end.
What’s The Proof?
Besides the visual proof of the “chemtrails” (which are actually condensation groups called “contrails”), there’s not much in the way of proof. Some will say that chemtrails, in relation to contrails, “look different” …but that doesn’t really hold up.
“We have not seen any credible evidence that chemtrails exist. If we did see any evidence that governments were endangering their own citizens in the manner alleged in the chemtrails conspiracy, we would be eager to expose and stop any such activities,” says a group of Harvard engineers.
If chemtrails were legitimate, it would take an astronomical amount of effort to keep that secret under wraps. Tens of thousands of people would need to come together to get it off the ground (pun intended).
Historically, the government doesn’t do a great job of keeping big secrets anyway. Russia knew about the Manhattan Project long before the US set it off, and that was the most hush-hush secret of its time.
So, What Is A “Contrail”?
A contrail is simply a thread of condensation that trails behind a plane as it flies. It forms because of water vapor produced by the fuel as it is used. When humidity is high, the contrail can last in the sky for several hours, and if the wind is powerful enough, it can spread out to look like something of a cirrus cloud.
The fact that “chemtrail” and “contrail” sound similar is a complete coincidence. Interesting, but a coincidence all the same.
It’s Nothing New
Conspiracy theories have been around for a long time, based around the idea that government agencies may be doing more than meets the eye. That thought scares a lot of people!
The truth of the matter is that, if theorists want to prove that contrails are anything more than water vapor, they’re going to need a lot more proof.
