When you hear “superfood,” you probably think kale, blueberries, green tea, etc.
Well, step aside leafy greens, there’s a new superfood in town, vinegar!
Vinegar actually does have health benefits, including antioxidant properties, blood sugar reduction, and probiotics, which is why it makes a pretty good salad dressing ingredient.
But that’s not what we’re talking about.
Vinegar is a superfood because of all that it can do off of your plate.
You may have heard that it’s a great natural cleaning agent. How does it work, and what else can it do?
Window Cleaner (and more)
You don’t need that mysterious blue stuff to clean glass, vinegar works great! Mix equal parts of water and distilled white vinegar. Wet a sponge and apply it to your windows. It’s also useful for cleaning:
- Bathtubs/showers
- Copper, brass, and pewter
- Dishes and glasses
- Microwaves (boil the ¼ cup of white distilled water and 1 cup of water in the microwave until it forms steam on the window. Easily wipe away food residue.)
- Floors
- Automatic coffee makers (fill the reservoir and then run the coffee maker through a brewing cycle).
- Pet urine in carpets
Kill Unwanted Grass and Weeds
Overgrowth is unsightly, but store-bought weed and grass killers are jam-packed with dangerous chemicals. All you need is some full-strength white distilled vinegar. Pour it on the unwanted vegetation and reapply until it’s gone.
Hair Rinse
Use 1-2 tablespoons of white distilled vinegar or apple cider vinegar mixed with 1 cup of water as a cleansing solution for your hair. The vinegar rinse will remove buildup and leave your hair shiny and silky.
Unclog the Showerhead
Vinegar can dissolve mineral buildup on your showerhead, restoring its beauty and function. Add 1 cup of vinegar to a plastic storage bag and fasten it over the showerhead. Let it soak overnight, then rinse in the morning. Ta-da! Sparkling clean.
These are only a few of the MANY things this superfood can do. Before you head to the store for hundreds of cleaners and solutions, just try some plain old vinegar. What can’t vinegar do?!
