Happy Pride! While it is important to honor the contributions, accomplishments, and history of the LGBTQ+ community year-round, June, also known as Pride Month, is a time when millions of people and countless organizations spend the most time celebrating this community.

Although many Pride parades and festivals have been canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are still many different ways for people to celebrate Pride Month this year:

For sports fans

Passionate about sports? Kick-off Pride Month with one of these fun activities:

Sign up for Prideraiser

Prideraiser is an organization that raises money for LGBTQ+ charities during Pride Month by collecting pledges per goal for different soccer teams. If you are a soccer fan or you are a member of a local team’s supporters’ group, you can help support charities doing amazing work and cheer on your favorite teams at the same time thanks to Prideraiser.

Attend a Pride Night

Whether you are a fan of a team in the NFL, NBA, WNBA, MLB, MLS, NWSL, or the NHL, you will be able to find a Pride Night game or event to attend during Pride Month.

Maybe you’re interested in the 49ers’ month-long Pride celebration or the Bruins Pride Skate. Perhaps you want to update your wardrobe with a Pride t-shirt from your favorite NBA team.

You can root for your favorite team while wearing a limited-edition Pride t-shirt or go to a Pride event hosted by a professional sports team and have the time of your life this Pride Month.

If you do attend an in-person event, make sure you are aware of COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions for your area.

For foodies

Are you the Liz Lemon of your friend group? Here are a few ways for you to celebrate Pride Month while enjoying incredible food:

Go to Brunch Fest

If you live near the area, Washington D.C. hosts a weekend brunch where citizens across the District are encouraged to wear rainbow colors and try food and drinks from select restaurants. There is great food and live entertainment, and all of the proceeds support local LGBTQ+ charities.

Drink a milkshake

While Pride Month is known for having some of the hottest parties and celebrations of the year, it is also held in one of the hottest months- June. Cool down this Pride Month with a delicious and festive Pride Shake from your local Shake Shack.

Make rainbow foods and drinks

Gather a group of friends together to celebrate Pride by making Pride-themed foods. While you can certainly be as creative as possible, here is a list to give you a few ideas:

Whether you want something savory or you have a powerful sweet tooth, you can find plenty of recipes that will help you have fun during Pride Month.

For virtual Pride celebrators

Now more than ever it is easier to celebrate Pride Month from the comfort of your couch. Here are a few virtual events that are taking place this June:

Check out the Institute of Contemporary Arts’ virtual First Fridays

The Institute of Contemporary Arts partnered with #PrideExtended to offer Pride Month events geared toward supporting Black transgender, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming artists. Watch virtual film screenings or attend a virtual concert during this virtual First Fridays series.

Watch movies

Most major streaming platforms have a variety of movies, tv shows, and documentaries that help celebrate LGBTQ+ individuals and their stories. Here are a few movies and shows to watch this June:

  • Brooklyn Nine-Nine (Hulu)
  • The Times of Harvey Milk (HBO Max)
  • Tig Notaro: Boyish Girl Interrupted (HBO Max)
  • Love, Victor (Hulu)
  • The Death And Life Of Marsha P. Johnson (Netflix)
  • The Way He Looks (Netflix)
  • Moonlight (Amazon Prime)

Watching these movies and shows is a great way to not only have fun during Pride Month but also to let stakeholders know that movies that highlight and recognize the LGBTQ+ community are valued and should continue to be made.

Attend the virtual NYC Pride March

While the annual NYC Pride March on Manhattan will not be in person this year, you can still take part in festivities online. Watch powerful performances, listen to interviews, and have fun celebrating pride all without leaving your living room.

Watch the 45th San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival

While this festival will have in-person events like outdoor movie screenings for people who live locally, those who would like to tune in online can take advantage of over 50 virtual screening programs from anywhere in the United States.

This June, there are several ways for you to celebrate Pride Month both in-person and online. Have fun and know that we’ll be celebrating right along with you!
