Life got you down? Here are a few cute and current comics to make you smile!

Fowl Language
Created by Brian Gordon, Fowl Language uses absurdist humor to cover current events and family life from Brian’s perspective. Shown through the point of view of a duck version of Brian, his comics feature his wife and kids, and they update weekly! From covering the struggles of living in quarantine to everyday stresses, Fowl Language creates a “that feeling when” situation almost every adult can giggle at. The colorful art and cartoony style works well with his short comics and merchandise. You can find him on Instagram and Twitter. He also has his own personal website, where you can buy merch to support him and his family!

Strange Planet
Nathan Wyple’s mini-comic series focuses on aliens learning about our planet. The comic itself features the stereotypical bug-eyed gray alien from science fiction movies! Strange Planet finds its humor through the scientific and convoluted language used to describe daily activities such as eating, travel, and school. The comics also cover current events in this observational style and the nature of the planet in general. From weather to dogs, Strange Planet’s quirky comics update frequently on Instagram and Twitter. Wyple also has a shop at LinkTree, where you can buy books and other merchandise from Strange Planet!

The Oatmeal
A series that covers art, health, and the aspects of creativity and humility, The Oatmeal by Matthew Inman has been running for over ten years. Although Inman claims his work is “relatively ordinary”, his sense of humor as a means to explain and cope with common problems is what makes this series truly unique, even after ten years of work. The Oatmeal updates every few days, and you can read it on Instagram, Twitter, and Inman’s website.

My Silly Comics
My Silly Comics doesn’t quite fit alongside the others in this list but is made with just as much love. Claire, the creator of the series, initially began My Silly Comics to make something that would “make her smile”, and since then, her series has gained viral fame on social media. These comics are drawn in Microsoft Paint and feature Claire herself, her childhood stuffed toy Bohug, her favorite pop star Hatsune Miku, and her sleep paralysis demon. They cover memories of her childhood, her love for cute things, and the challenges of being a young adult in today’s world. Ranging from one to four panels, My Silly Comics can be read on Tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram. Claire’s super-cute merch page features pins, keychains, and stickers drawn in her art style.

Lil’ Char and The Gang
If you love Pokémon, Lil’ Char and The Gang is the perfect binge-read this season. Created by professional illustrator Nekoama, the series follows the three Kanto Region starters, Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle, in a series of Peanuts-style adventures with a diverse set of family dynamics. The comics are a bit longer than the others showcased here, consisting of four or more panels, but they update every Friday! Unlike the other series listed, Lil’ Char and The Gang is a family-friendly series. You can find it on Twitter, Instagram, and the popular webcomic site, Line Webtoon.
